"Roscosmos, Russia's space agency, officially confirmed on Sunday that Luna-25 experienced an unintended lunar crash landing. According to their statement, on Saturday, Luna-25 underwent a planned thrust to establish its pre-landing elliptical orbit. However, communication with the spacecraft was lost around 14:57 Moscow time. Despite efforts made on August 19 and 20 to locate and reestablish contact with the probe, no success was achieved. Preliminary analysis suggests that Luna-25 deviated from its calculated trajectory due to impulse parameter discrepancies, resulting in an off-design orbit and ultimately colliding with the lunar surface, leading to its cessation."
